Rhythm
_ One
of the great things about learning at In Nurturing Hands School is the
rhythmic quality of our curriculum. Activities flow naturally from one
to the other, following daily, weekly, and seasonal cycles. These
rhythms promote our students' well-being and support them in their
emotional and intellectual development.
Repetition
_ An
established routine in the day's activities builds security in
children by providing them with well-managed and fulfilling
expectations. Students become aware of the friendly rhythm of the
school day by being active in the daily tasks of play, academics,
eating, and cleanup.
Reverence
_ At
our school, we try to instill a reverent appreciation for life, nature,
and each other. These qualities are cultivated through learning
experiences that educate both our students' minds and hearts as well.
Students are taught the simple lessons of etiquette, sharing, and
respect for animals, insects, and others.
Creative Play
_Play
provides a valuable learning space where children can explore their
imaginations, develop social skills, and engage themselves in inherently
meaningful ways that bring order, creativity, and beauty into the
world. Free play is a quintessential part of our curriculum. Our
students play with toys, play stands, and games made from natural, raw
materials, such as cotton, beeswax, silk, wood, and wool.
Enrichment
_ Our
students are continually involved in educational activities that enrich
their minds and stimulate their senses. Children participate in the
simple crafts of weaving, finger knitting, carpentry, and pottery while
also partaking in weekly activities, such as music, painting, drawing,
organic gardening, and baking of bread.
Snack & Lunch
_The
preparation and consumption of rich and wholesome food is a central
element to our curriculum. Our children participate in the preparation,
presentation, and, above all, consumption of school meals. Parents and
faculty contribute organic fruits and other food items to our morning
snack and afternoon lunch. Afterwards, students help in the tidying of
their meal area by washing and drying their dishes, cleaning, and
sweeping.
Outdoor Exercise
_Our
curriculum offers students the chance to witness and experience nature
through lively excursions outdoors. Children join their teacher and
classmates in nature walks, gardening, and sandbox play.
School Events
_ Throughout
the academic year, our school hosts a variety of events that celebrate
the seasons as well as the special moments in our students' lives. Our
loving students, parents, and volunteers make these events special by
contributing their time, effort, and creativity towards the preparation
and presentation of school celebrations. Some of the events our students
look forward to every year are Lanternfest, the Advent Spiral, and Festival of Tents. In all of these, parents, as well as current and former students, participate.
